Funds to help raise capacity in Pune
Consumer appliances major Whirlpool of India plans to expand its Pune manufacturing facility, which produces refrigerators, at an investment of Rs 375 crore.
The subsidiary of Whirlpool Corporation USA, one of the world’s largest manufacturer of consumer appliances, made the announcement during the Magnetic Maharashtra Convergence 2018 event in Mumbai after signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the State Government.
“With this investment, we will be increasing our refrigeration manufacturing capacity and delivering best-in-class products with leading global technologies to our consumers,” said Sunil D’Souza, MD, Whirlpool of India.
“We aim to deliver our promise of Make in India and contribute to significant employment generation and development of supply base around Pune,” he added.
As per the MoU, Whirlpool may expand its refrigerator manufacturing capacity at the facility in two phases over the next five years. This would involve setting up a new refrigeration line in a new building and creating innovative products. – The Hindu
